What’s left for current LEGO Harry Potter Hogwarts Castle?

LEGO Harry Potter’s current Hogwarts Castle is getting the last part of its facade this summer, leaving little left to cover aside from niche areas.

With the arrival of 76473 Hogwarts Castle: East Wing this summer, the current LEGO Hogwarts Castle is officially the biggest and most complete minifigure-driven depiction of the castle to date. By completing the structure through multiple sets and years, the LEGO Harry Potter design team have a bigger budget than ever, though it does mean that several parts of the current castle and grounds have now retired.

The full roster of the current Hogwarts sets consists of six connecting sets, as well as three additional models for the surrounding grounds. These come with a myriad of rooms for you to place as you see fit, but there are five additional expansion rooms to pick up, as well.

One of these rooms was an event-exclusive gift-with-purchase, but it still goes to show that this current iteration of minifigure-scale Hogwarts is by far the most complete to date.

With that said, it’s not quite a complete recreation of the school. While many areas are missing, the LEGO Group is unlikely ever to cover every inch of the castle, no matter how long the collection lasts. Instead, we’ll focus on only the key areas that are still missing. Of the iconic Hogwarts Silhouette, we’re only missing the astronomy and bell towers, and one is familiar ground for the LEGO Group.

Though not part of the current era of LEGO Hogwarts Castle, the astronomy tower has had a set before. 75969 Hogwarts Astronomy Tower demonstrates that the location is not out of the scope of LEGO Harry Potter, and since that original set is now retired, there’s space for it to return for the current Hogwarts.

Such a model would need to sit behind 76473 Hogwarts Castle: East Wing, and connecting it may therefore be an issue. 76435 Hogwarts Castle: The Great Hall and 76454 Hogwarts Castle: The Main Tower faced a similar situation, though, and it wasn’t a dealbreaker. Some fans have already started speculating that such an expansion to the latest module may be in the works.

The tower’s distinct design is an important part of the Hogwarts Castle skyline and would need to be larger than the last version to be in scale with the current castle. It would also be able to complete the run of common rooms in the castle, finishing them with that of Hufflepuff. Realistically, it’s the most likely next entry into the current castle and potentially the last.

The twin bell towers have not been depicted in the theme before, and would need to appear much farther behind 76473 Hogwarts Castle: East Wing to be accurate. Their imposing size means they are visible on the Hogwarts Castle skyline, though their location would make a model of them in the current castle more challenging.

Should the LEGO Group wish to expand the current roster of Hogwarts Castle with locations that are next to what has already been represented, their options are now limited. Options aside from the astronomy tower include the north tower on the left of 76454 Hogwarts Castle: The Main Tower, or a connecting garden structure to the right of 76473 Hogwarts Castle: East Wing to accommodate 76445 Hogwarts Castle: Herbology Class.

Otherwise, there’s not much room for any further expansions to LEGO Hogwarts Castle without blocking much of the back of each build. That would go against the aims of making this a play-friendly Hogwarts as opposed to the multiple display-oriented models of the castle.

Should this be the end of the road, the 15 total sets in this collection adequately cover the most iconic areas of the castle and create a skyline that no other collection of LEGO Hogwarts sets has achieved so far.

LEGO has been a part of my life ever since I was young. It all started when my brother passed down 7657 AT-ST to me. It’s guided me through my early years, through school and eventually through my degree in journalism. I still have all my collection proudly on display, including my many NINJAGO sets, my favourite of all the LEGO Group’s themes. Outside of Brick Fanatics I am an avid gamer and enjoy a good game of Dungeons & Dragons.
