Who’s who in LEGO Ideas 21358 Minifigure Vending Machine?

LEGO Ideas 21358 Minifigure Vending Machine is a treasure trove of minifigures, including nostalgic Classic Space and Castle entries.

Following its reveal earlier today, 21358 Minifigure Vending Machine is sure to delight minifigure collectors with its 16 minifigures. These aren’t all generic designs with common parts, though. There’s a lot of new pieces with nostalgic references for fans to digest, and we’ve got a guide to who’s who to help out.

21358 Minifigure Vending Machine launches on June 1 for LEGO Insiders or June 4 for everyone for £149.99 / $179.99 / €169.99 and here’s who you can expect to find in the minifigure selection of the latest LEGO Ideas set, which is the second-most minifigures in a LEGO Ideas set to date.

Classic Space astronauts

Two new colours of Classic Space astronauts kick off the minifigure selection in LEGO Ideas 21358 Minifigure Prize Machine. These come complete with the full outfit – air tanks, helmet, legs, torso and hands – immediately adding two more Classic Space minifigures to the ever-expanding collection.

Fans voted on these new designs, covering warm gold and bright bluish green. There are two of each coloured astronaut in the set, despite their simplistic design. This means that one of the minifigures can be stored for use in the vending machine while the other sits proudly in your Classic Space collection.

Kraken and Griffin knights

Four minifigures in 21358 Minifigure Prize Machine’s 16 are dedicated to LEGO Castle as well. These represent the Kraken and Griffin factions as LEGO Ideas users voted on last year. There are two minifigures for each faction – one masculine and one feminine. They both have masks covering their mouths, the newer LEGO Viking helmet and a shield featuring the faction’s emblem. Their colour scheme and uniform are suitably seaworthy, consisting of lighter, padded fabrics.

The Griffin knights are more heavily armoured in comparison, with shields that make use of 77092 Great Deku Tree 2-in-1‘s Hylian shield element for a diverse shape. Since two of each faction’s minifigures are included in the LEGO Ideas set, you’ll have a decent start on this new LEGO Castle faction, but hopefully, more minifigures for the group aren’t too far behind outside of the £149.99 / $179.99 / €169.99 set.

Pirates

LEGO Pirates has two minifigures in 21358 Minifigure Vending Machine for a pirate and an Imperial. The former is more familiar with striped clothing, but on a new torso design, and a head wrap. The Imperial is more interesting visually, complete with fancier garments and a map. Both torsos appear to be exclusive to the LEGO Ideas set.

Paradisa beachgoers

Paradisa is included in the nostalgia minifigure selection of LEGO Ideas 21358 Minifigure Vending Machine. The classic theme has two minifigures in the set – one masculine and one feminine – sporting a hat and sunglasses, respectively. Their torsos are adorned with the Paradisa logo, with some suitably breezy clothing ideal for a day at the beach. They’re also both recreations of older Paradisa minifigures, complete with that stylish moustache.

Fabuland cosplayers

Two LEGO Fabuland minifigures are included in 21358 Minifigure Vending Machine as well, but they’re not anthropomorphic animals similar to the original Fabuland figures or those of LEGO Animal Crossing. The latter theme might be the reason why 21358 Minifigure Vending Machine opts for a pair of LEGO Fabuland cosplayers instead, so as not to compete or risk confusion.

They come complete with hoodies adorned with the classic theme’s logo, as well as a bear and elephant costume head. Their accessories are customisable, and the mug should fit nicely with the cosy aesthetic of Fabuland.

LEGO Ideas designers

The press release confirms that the minifigure in the red plaid shirt is none other than the original project’s fan designer, Rob Vangansewinkel. The Belgium-based fan designer is the one responsible for proposing the Minifigure Prize Machine, which has now become 21358 Minifigure Vending Machine, and a spot for their minifigure in their set is only fitting.

Based on the shirt that the female minifigure is wearing, it seems likely that this is intended to depict an official LEGO Ideas designer with a house model currently being created. It pairs perfectly with the fan designer’s minifigure, complete with a miniature vending machine.

21358 Minifigure Vending Machine will be available for £149.99 / $179.99 / €169.99 with 1,343 pieces (including 16 minifigures) when it launches on June 1 for LEGO Insiders or June 4 for everyone.

LEGO has been a part of my life ever since I was young. It all started when my brother passed down 7657 AT-ST to me. It’s guided me through my early years, through school and eventually through my degree in journalism. I still have all my collection proudly on display, including my many NINJAGO sets, my favourite of all the LEGO Group’s themes. Outside of Brick Fanatics I am an avid gamer and enjoy a good game of Dungeons & Dragons.
