Will the LEGO Minions sets be delayed again?

Another delay has been announced for the upcoming Minions sequel, but will the accompanying LEGO sets see the same fate?

When Despicable Me released, no one could have predicted the cultural phenomenon that the movie’s minions would become. Not only have they granted a sequel to the movie, as well as their own film, but another in the franchise, plus a few LEGO sets are on the way. Unfortunately, one of those has now been pushed back even further.

After a previous delay to July 2 of this year, Universal has revealed that Minions: The Rise of Gru has been delayed again amidst the ongoing pandemic. The news comes via the movie’s Twitter account.

The new release date has been named as July 1 2022, but the LEGO Group’s own german retail catalogue confirmed a release for the sets in June of this year, which is now more than a year before the film will air.

It seems possible that the sets will now be pushed back another year too, to coincide with what will no doubt be a blockbuster release, but so far nothing has been confirmed. Two of the Minions sets have already released early but the last three – 75546Minionsin Gru’s Lab, 75547 Minion Pilot in Training and 75550MinionsKung Fu Battle have been held back. Also, a polybag will be joining them.

We’ll keep you updated on the launch of these new sets and if there are any more delays. Hopefully, they will be finding themselves in the hands of excited fans soon.

LEGO has been a part of my life ever since I was young. It all started when my brother passed down 7657 AT-ST to me. It’s guided me through my early years, through school and eventually through my degree in journalism. I still have all my collection proudly on display, including my many NINJAGO sets, my favourite of all the LEGO Group’s themes. Outside of Brick Fanatics I am an avid gamer and enjoy a good game of Dungeons & Dragons.
