Will today’s Nintendo Direct reveal anything about LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga?

Nintendo is holding its first full Direct livestream since September 2019 later today – but will it include LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga?

The 50-minute stream will showcase currently-available games, like Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, and Nintendo Switch games arriving ‘in the first half of 2021’. If LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga hasn’t been delayed as some fans fear, it would fall very nicely into that latter category.

That’s because as far as we know, TT Games’ ambitious title still has a release date of ‘spring 2021’. The question is: would the studio use a Nintendo-specific showcase to reveal the first details on its Star Wars sequel (beyond a few magazine article tidbits) since Gamescom in August 2020?

It seems unlikely, but it’s not entirely out of the realms of possibility. The LEGO games are Nintendo’s best-selling third party video game franchise, after all, while both the platform and games share similar family-friendly values. If TT Games was planning to use any one console to reveal more about LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga, it would surely be the Switch.

I like to think of myself as a journalist first, LEGO fan second, but we all know that’s not really the case. Journalism does run through my veins, though, like some kind of weird literary blood – the sort that will no doubt one day lead to a stress-induced heart malfunction. It’s like smoking, only worse. Thankfully, I get to write about LEGO until then.
