Winners of Build the Change LEGO competition announced

The winners of the Build the Change competition have been announced, and the winning school has now been awarded 10,000 LEGO bricks to enjoy.

At St Hild’s Primary School in Durham, the children in Year 5 created the winning film of the competition, called “Bringing More Nature to the Community”. The competition was launched in 2022, and aimed to inspire students to improve their communities by creating a short film. The challenge also came with a curriculum-linked education program.

The winning film followed a story about a teddy bear who discovers the joys of nature after being sad about having a lack of outdoor space to explore, and the journey of discovery in nature has already been shown to be something that the LEGO Group is committed to supporting.

After the winners were announced, Reggie Yates expressed his pride at being involved in the Build the Change competition, describing the competition as ‘a great way to get children engaged with what is happening in the world around them, and have them come up with a creative solution to issues that matter to them’.

David Pallash, the Senior Manager for Responsibility at the LEGO Group, also emphasised how important it is for competitions such as these to keep moving forward and inspiring young builders, noting that: “Our mission at the LEGO Group is to inspire and develop the builders of tomorrow and that’s exactly what the Build the Change programme is all about.”

3,000 LEGO bricks were also won by the two runners-up, being Arinagour Primary School on the Isle of Coll and Castle Court School in Wimbourne, Dorset.
