Six LEGO Star Wars sets we need from the prequels

LEGO Star Wars is looking to the prequels for the next Ultimate Collector Series set, and there’s still much more from the movies for the designers to transform.

Following the tease that buying 75309 Republic Gunship could give the LEGO Group reason to produce more models inspired by the prequel movies, it’s time to look back and explore which locations, characters and vehicles could be next.

Compared to the sequel and original trilogies, the prequels have a wealth of content that has yet to be transformed into a LEGO model, so here are six that we think would be a perfect fit.

6 – Geonosian Arena

Hot on the heels of 75309 Republic Gunship, the next best set for the Star Wars designers to tackle would arguably be the droid-filled arena where the ship featured in a rescue of Anakin Skywalker, Obi-Wan Kenobi and Padmé Amidala.

The site of the epic battle between Jedi and Separatists would make a great LEGO model of any size, featuring brick-built versions of the Acklay, Reek and Nexu, but maybe not enough space for 75309 Republic Gunship to land – we’re not sure we’d want the price to be that high.

5 – Kamino

The cloning facility of Kamino is another location that has yet to be represented in bricks and we can imagine a first iteration of it including minifigures for the Kaminoans that reside there.

The LEGO Designers could take inspiration from Attack of the Clones for a scene-based set with a smaller representation of the cloning facility and its operators along with a recoloured version of 75312 Boba Fett’s Starship.

4 – A new Republic Cruiser

As the first ship that is seen chronologically in the Star Wars cinematic saga (in terms of in-universe timescale, not release date) the fact that the LEGO Group haven’t already produced a modern minifigure-scale version of this iconic red ship is puzzling, to say the least.

So far, there have been two scale versions of the Republic Cruiser, 7665 Republic Cruiser pictured above and 7964 Republic Frigate. A third model could include the newer minifigures for Qui-Gon Jinn and Obi-Wan Kenobi seen in 75169 Duel on Naboo, as well as a few droids to ambush them upon landing.

3 – The Jedi Temple

The Coruscant home of the Jedi appears throughout the Star Wars saga, either as the Jedi Temple, Imperial Palace or a base of operations for the New Republic.

A facade-style build similar to 75251 Darth Vader’s Castle would suit the building nicely, without going into the realms of another UCS prequel model. Alternatively, the LEGO Group could approach the building at a much larger scale, as we’ve already proposed.

2 – A classic Star Destroyer

Before the triangular Star Destroyers were known as the intimidating transport of the empire, they were heralded as icons of the Republic, bringing the life-saving clones to the far reaches of the galaxy and protecting its citizens from the thrall of the Sith.

The LEGO Group have approached this ship before too, in the form of Star Wars 8039 Venator-Class Republic Attack Cruiser in 2009, but with huge models such as 75252 Imperial Star Destroyer and 75055 Imperial Star Destroyer since then, there’s plenty more to be done with the Venator design.

1 – A droid control ship

In what could only be another UCS model, the droid control ship seen at the battle of Naboo simply needs a massive set of its own, with the complex, yet simple shape posing an interesting challenge for the LEGO designers.

We can imagine a set of the ship coming in at a larger scale, with microscale ships such as a Naboo Starfighter used to promote a sense of size compared to them. For minifigures, it could include a new and detailed version of the Droideka or a young Anakin Skywalker.
