Record breaking LEGO bridge on display in Scotland
LEGO fans in Glasgow can check out a brick built bridge that holds a Guinness World Record.
A 200,000 piece bridge, that holds the Guinness World Record for Longest LEGO Brick Bridge, is on display from today at the St Enoch Centre in Glasgow, Scotland. It is being hosted there by the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE), as the organisation celebrates its bicentenary. The display also coincides with Scotland’s Year of Young People, with the ICE hoping to inspire the engineers of tomorrow.
ITV reports that the bridge goes on display today to coincide with International Women in Engineering Day (INWED) and Ice’s Explore Engineering weekend. It was conceived back in 2014 by Dr Robin Sham before being assembled in a shopping centre by a team of civil engineers. The suspension bridge is 31 metres long and 3 metres tall.
“Giving young people the chance to see the bridge, learn about how it was designed and built, and meet some of the invisible superheroes behind it, will help them realise engineering can be a fun and inspiring career,” said Sara Thiam, regional director of ICE Scotland, to ITV. “Civil engineers directly transform our lives by designing, building and looking after bridges and many other everyday things that we often take for granted.”
Fans can see the bridge in person at the St Enoch Centre from June 23 until October 28.
