First official images of LEGO DC 76220 Batman versus Harley Quinn

An online retailer has revealed the first official images of this year’s only remaining LEGO DC set (as far as we know), 76220 Batman versus Harley Quinn.

It’s been all quiet on the Batman front for most of 2022, with Marvel doing practically all the heavy lifting for the LEGO Super Heroes themes. A small wave of three sets arrived on shelves in January (or October 2021 in the US) to tie in with Matt Reeves’ The Batman, and since then… nada. (Well, unless you count Technic’s 42127 The Batman – Batmobile.)

The tides aren’t exactly beginning to turn, but the good news is that there is at least one more LEGO DC set coming this year. The bad news is that it’s a tiny 4+ set, the only appeal of which for adult collectors will be its unique Harley Quinn minifigure, which inverts the colours of the character’s hairpiece from The LEGO Batman Movie.

First discovered on shelves earlier this year, Dutch retailer Otto Simon has now published the first official images of 76220 Batman versus Harley Quinn, which includes the Dark Knight on a Batcycle, Harley on a skateboard, and absolutely nothing else. Still, it will only retail for €14.99, if you’re searching for a silver lining. (We’re looking at you, 75332 AT-ST.)

There’s no word on a release date for the 4+ set yet, but given it’s already turned up on shelves once, a proper launch in September or October seems likely.

Beyond what little 76220 Batman versus Harley Quinn has to offer, all hopes of a resurgence of the LEGO DC theme now lie in the rumoured $500 Super Heroes set said to be coming later this year. Otherwise, we’re looking at 2023 for a proper revival of this now-dormant theme – but there are plenty of ways the LEGO Group could bring it back from its slumber…

I like to think of myself as a journalist first, LEGO fan second, but we all know that’s not really the case. Journalism does run through my veins, though, like some kind of weird literary blood – the sort that will no doubt one day lead to a stress-induced heart malfunction. It’s like smoking, only worse. Thankfully, I get to write about LEGO until then.
