Information plaques are becoming more common in less expensive LEGO sets

Once reserved for more expensive models, information plaques are becoming more common in affordable LEGO sets from Marvel and more.

Informative plaques, usually represented with a sticker on a flat or sloped black brick, were once limited to LEGO Star Wars sets in the Ultimate Collector Series. However, times have changed and such stickers can now be found in many themes.

Recent examples of this change can be seen in 76188 Batman Classic TV Series Batmobile and 76206 Iron Man Figure, both of which are more affordable at £29.99 / $29.99 / €34.99 and £34.99 / $39.99 / €39.99 respectively compared to the likes of 75192 Millennium Falcon at £699.99 / $799.99 / €799.99.

The presence of an informative plaque in these smaller sets give them a broader appeal to an older audience as younger fans might not be quite as interested in reading the technical details for the inspiration behind their toy. It also makes them more displayable.

That latter point is especially evident in 76832 XL-15 Spaceship, one of the upcoming Lightyear sets based on the movie of the same name. The included display stand in that model, where a plaque is connected, positions the ship at an angle to show you more of the build.

The recent appearances of plaques in less expensive LEGO sets might be a sign that we can expect more displayable models at a lower price point in the future as they continue to appear in more themes from Marvel, DC, Disney and more. For now, you can look forward to the release of 76832 XL-15 Spaceship on April 24 and find 76206 Iron Man Figure on the official online store now.

LEGO has been a part of my life ever since I was young. It all started when my brother passed down 7657 AT-ST to me. It’s guided me through my early years, through school and eventually through my degree in journalism. I still have all my collection proudly on display, including my many NINJAGO sets, my favourite of all the LEGO Group’s themes. Outside of Brick Fanatics I am an avid gamer and enjoy a good game of Dungeons & Dragons.
