The new LEGO Avatar sets have plenty of exciting elements

The vibrant world of Pandora in the LEGO Avatar theme has necessitated a few new colours for familiar LEGO pieces.

As the release of Avatar: The Way of Water approaches, the LEGO Group has unveiled the second wave of LEGO Avatar sets – pun definitely intended. While the first Avatar film took place in the jungles and mountains of Pandora, the second shifts the action to Pandora’s oceans – which, if the LEGO sets are any indication, are filled with colourful alien creatures for us to gaze upon.

While the new creature elements have immediately drawn our eye, there are several new and rare part colours as well – reflecting the design choices of the first wave of LEGO Avatar sets. For instance, 75577 Mako Submarine features purple carrots and dark turquoise bananas in the construction of its coral reefs. While the latter element isn’t new, it’s only appeared in 80106 Story of Nian to date – so if you’re hankering for some alien fruit, this set might be what you’re after.

Another intriguing element can be found in 75578 Metkayina Reef Home; transparent clip elements are situated beneath the waterline. These allow fish to be attached more elegantly to larger builds; BrickLink part listings suggest that this part recolour is new for the LEGO Avatar theme, and presents some intriguing creative possibilities going forwards.

Even without new elements, though, these sets are a goldmine for vibrant LEGO elements. You can expect to find various shades of yellow, green, pink, purple and blue in these sets, making these sets ideal parts pack for custom builders.

If you’d prefer to just get any new elements on their own, it seems likely they’ll be available for purchase directly from the LEGO Group. The LEGO Pick a Brick service is currently planning to add ‘novelty’ parts (i.e. new elements or new recolours) to its service four months after their introduction – so if there’s anything you really like in these sets, you should be able to grab it from LEGO.com from May 2023. The creature parts may take a bit longer to materialise, though – and, of course, you can look at other sites like BrickLink if you can’t bear to wait that long.

Avatar: The Way of Water will appear in cinemas from December 16, with the accompanying LEGO sets appearing on January 1, 2023. You can see the complete collection of new Avatar sets in our announcement article
