The LEGO Group’s best baby minifigures, from Grogu to Groot

Since its debut in 2016, the baby minifigure has been used for all kinds of characters in LEGO sets, proving that this infant minifigure has range.

Appearing first in 2016 in a papoose in 71011 Series 16 and 71034 Fun in the park – City People Pack, the baby minifigure has been a surprisingly versatile size of LEGO character in the past six years.

While these bricks have been used for normal babies in City and other themes, a few infant-sized minifigures have been a bit more, interesting to say the least.

5 – Jack Jack

The line of LEGO Incredibles sets for the sequel from 2018 used the baby pieces with only changes in the printing for the babbling superpowered infant, Jack-Jack. Jack-Jack was included in 10761 The Great Home Escape

While it’s one of the least interesting designs on this list, it arguably has the most potential thanks to the expansive collection of powers that Jack-Jack holds. Unfortunately, the LEGO Incredibles sets have now been retired.

4 – Baby Groot

Following Groot’s demise in the first Guardians of the Galaxy movie, Groot took on a baby form in the sequel with an exclusive piece in two sets to recreate him.

The LEGO baby Groot minifigure is included in the retired 76080 Ayesha’s Revenge and 76081 The Milano vs. The Abilisk, with a different design in each. Both are unavailable now, but you can get a larger baby Groot in 76217 I am Groot with double VIP points also on offer now.

3 – Sewer Babies / Sparkle Babies

The LEGO Movie 2 provided two contrasting designs for the same group of babies. Starting as the Sewer Babies in 853865 TLM2 Accessory Set 2019, this pair of infants would soon undergo a colourful transformation.

Reflecting the ending of the film, 70847 Good Morning Sparkle Babies! was released as part of the second wave of LEGO Movie sets, adding colourful costumes and face paint to the duo.

2 – Grogu

Grogu, also known affectionately as Baby Yoda, is included in quite a few LEGO Star Wars sets, the most recent of which being 75331 The Razor Crest, which will net you a lot of bonus VIP points during the current double points event.

The Grogu minifigure introduces the largest change to the baby minifigure’s design without making a new element for the entirety of the minifigure. Instead, Grogu uses a new head element featuring giant ears but utilises the normal baby body with tiny green hands.

1 – Voldemort

As unexpected as it might be, Voldemort also has a baby minifigure thanks to 75965 The Rise of Voldemort.

This minifigure is one of the more unique baby minifigure for its unhappy expression as well as the fact that it reuses the child in a papoose element first seen in the LEGO Collectable Minifigures line.

LEGO has been a part of my life ever since I was young. It all started when my brother passed down 7657 AT-ST to me. It’s guided me through my early years, through school and eventually through my degree in journalism. I still have all my collection proudly on display, including my many NINJAGO sets, my favourite of all the LEGO Group’s themes. Outside of Brick Fanatics I am an avid gamer and enjoy a good game of Dungeons & Dragons.
