LEGO fan designer reveals new look for Classic Space set

A talented fan designer has taken to social media to reveal his own inspired (and hilarious) design that combines two iconic LEGO models.

Steve Guinness, also known as The Brick Consultant, is no stranger to creating unique new model designs based around existing LEGO sets. These have included alternate takes on everything from a modified 40533 Cosmic Cardboard Adventures to a microscale version of 70816 Benny’s Spaceship, Spaceship, SPACESHIP!

With the recent release of both 10497 Galaxy Explorer and alternate building instructions for the set, Guinness has posted images on social media of a model he created that taps into the same Classic Space theme. However, his hilarious design takes things a little further, offering a futuristic (and gigantic) take on LEGO House 40501 The Wooden Duck.

Guinness built what he calls a ‘Classic Space Duck Rover’, that manages to combine the historical LEGO model with a tricked-out lunar vehicle. The build includes a cockpit interior large enough for an astronaut minifigure to fit inside and opening wing doors.

The design also features a brick-built section of grey moon landscape, echoing the iconic moulded baseplate that was included with the original 497 Galaxy Explorer set, but is sadly missing from the updated 90th Anniversary model.

LEGO ICONS 10497 Galaxy Explorer is available for purchase now and is priced at £89.99 / $99.99 / €99.99.
