LEGO Fortnite dos and don’ts to master the new game mode

Going into the first weekend since LEGO Fortnite’s launch, here are some tips and tricks to make sure you get the most out of the new game.

Epic Games and the LEGO Group’s official collab is finally here and available to play. The vast open-world map allows players to roam around, explore caves, fight Brutes, and so much more. With so much to do, getting the most out of the game can be tricky. With that in mind, here are a few tips to help your experience in the game go smoothly.

Be mindful of resources

Much like Minecraft, the way you get resources in LEGO Fortnite is by breaking down the environment around you. You can and should get lumber from trees, as well as granite from bigger rocks. However, be cautious with the latter. It appears that the rocks will not respawn, although trees will regrow. That means you might need to plan conservatively to make sure your resources go far enough.

Prepare a sizeable team of NPCs

Progressing through the game means you can add NPCs to your village. Not only will they keep you company and brighten up your village, you can also assign them to adventure alongside you. If you give them tools and weapons, the NPCs can fight enemies alongside you and help you collect materials, making your adventures easier, safer, and more fruitful.

Remember you can’t move buildings

When it’s time to start building, make sure to plan where you want them all to go. You can’t move buildings once they’ve been built so getting rid of them will involve breaking them down and rebuilding somewhere else – quite a lot of effort to go through. The smartest move is to plan out your builds in advance. Plus, be sure to lay out foundations carefully for your more intricate creations. Placing smaller sections of foundation instead of one big square gives you more flexibility with shapes when building, so you can play around with walls, corners, and pillars as you please.

Don’t process all your materials

It might be tempting to put all your raw resources straight into a lumber mill or stone cutter but you’ll sometimes need basic materials like wood and granite too. Planks are helpful to keep on you to make emergency stairs while out and about, but keep a healthy balance of both in your inventory for greater flexibility.

Make a food source your priority

LEGO minifigures not only can eat in Fortnite but they need to. There are plenty of food sources, including foraged foods like raspberries and pumpkins, as well as animal-based products like milk and eggs. You can also build up farms to give yourself a reliable food source close to your home base, so you don’t need to worry about finding food while on a long expedition to a cave.

Just keep building

To level up your village, you’ll just need to keep building more and more. You can improve and upgrade the original structures you placed down, or decide to build a brand new home for your villagers. There are dozens of potential designs, from huge log mansions to ramshackle cabins. Whatever takes your fancy, the process of building will level up your village rapidly.
