LEGO Foundation increases donation to disadvantaged kids around the world

The LEGO Foundation has announced it will be increasing its original donation to the Global Partnership for Education (GPE) to a record-breaking amount.

Back in June, the LEGO Foundation pledged an initial $23 million to the GPE in order to help to address some of the issues children are facing due to COVID-19 all around the world. On 29th July, it increased this amount by $7 million, making a total of $30 million.

This is the single largest donation that any organisation has pledged to the GPE. It will be split up over a period of five years in an ongoing partnership between the two establishments.

“During our five-year partnership, we will work with the GPE to systemically reach children with learning through play and a breadth of skills development,” the Foundation wrote in a LinkedIn post. “We believe that when we work together, great things can happen. We want to #raiseourhand to give as many children as possible the opportunity to receive quality education and fulfil the objectives of SDG 4.”

Here, SDG 4 refers to the UN’s Sustainable Development Goal 4, focusing on quality and equal education for children around the world. This is not the first time that the LEGO Foundation has donated to education efforts, with a recent investment into leadership education as well.
