LEGO 76417 Gringotts Bank may connect to yet another LEGO Harry Potter set

A closer look at the upcoming 76417 Gringotts Wizarding Bank Collectors’ Edition reveals it may connect to yet another LEGO Harry Potter set.

Yesterday, the LEGO Group officially revealed 76417 Gringotts Wizarding Bank Collectors’ Edition, a monster-sized magical model clocking in at a whopping 4,803 pieces. The upcoming LEGO Harry Potter set will launch on September 1 for VIPs and September 4 for everyone else, priced at £369.99 / $429.99 / €429.99.

A follow-up to 2020’s 75978 Diagon Alley, the upcoming set stands over 75cm tall, sits on a 32×32-stud baseplate and features a split-level design that includes the bank above and subterranean vaults below. As well as being packed with details, such as a giant brick-built Ukrainian Ironbelly Dragon and 13 minifigures, 76417 Gringotts Wizarding Bank Collectors’ Edition is also fully-compatible with 75978 Diagon Alley (in more ways than one).

The two LEGO Harry Potter sets can either be placed together horizontally (necessitating the removal of the vault section), as an L-shaped street scene or with the Diagon Alley buildings facing each other, as shown on the 76417 Gringotts Wizarding Bank Collectors’ Edition box.

However, a closer look at the vault level reveals that it might be possible to connect yet another LEGO Harry Potter model to 76417 Gringotts Wizarding Bank Collectors’ Edition. The eagle-eyed amongst you may be able to spot a connecting Technic pin at the base of the spiralling cart track, potentially suggesting there may be an option to attach something else to the huge build.

One such possibility might be the previously-rumoured 40598 Gringotts Vault, said to be a 212-piece set that may be available as a GWP promotion alongside 76417 Gringotts Wizarding Bank Collectors’ Edition. That’s pure speculation for now though, but it’s not hard to imagine an additional section of track being added to the existing set-up or another brick-built vault attached to the subterranean section.

Black 2×4 tiles located at the beginning and end of the track are presumably used to stop the mine cart travelling too far, but it may also be possible to fold down the piece at the base and extend the vehicle’s journey still further. That may not be what the set’s designer’s originally intended, but creative fans might see possibilities there for expanding the set and connecting it to other magical models.

Of course, another reason the Technic pin is there might just be the ability to display both levels of the upcoming LEGO Harry Potter set side-by-side, although that would certainly be an usual way to show off 76417 Gringotts Wizarding Bank Collectors’ Edition. For now we’ll have to wait for the LEGO Group to confirm the existence of 40598 Gringotts Vault at some point to discover if there’s any compatibility at all between the two models.

76417 Gringotts Wizarding Bank Collectors’ Edition will be available for VIPs from September 1 priced at £369.99 / $429.99 / €429.99, with a wider release following on September 4.
