LEGO Harry Potter 76417 Gringotts Wizarding Bank Collectors’ Edition officially revealed

The LEGO Group has officially revealed 76417 Gringotts Wizarding Bank Collectors’ Edition, the highly-requested follow-up to 2020’s magical 75978 Diagon Alley – and it looks genuinely magical.

Coming in at 4,803 pieces, 76417 Gringotts Wizarding Bank Collectors’ Edition is split over two enormous levels – above ground and subterranean – yet is still fully compatible with 75978 Diagon Alley. The bank is built on a 32×32-stud baseplate that rests on the underground vaults, and can be removed to display separately (or alongside the rest of the buildings in Diagon Alley).

Those vaults are accessed by a mine cart on spiralling rollercoaster track, anchored around a soaring central support that’s also responsible for holding up the entire bank, which at first glance looks like a feat of pure wizardry. The entire scene is dotted with all the magical details you’d expect of a flagship Harry Potter set, while there’s even a small representation of the Magical Menagerie attached to Gringotts above ground.

The set brings together moments from across the Harry Potter saga, including Harry and Hagrid’s journey to vault 713 to retrieve the Philosopher’s Stone, and Harry, Ron and Hermione’s break-in to find a Horcrux in the Deathly Hallows: Part 2. You’ll find 13 minifigures in the box as a result: two Harrys, Hagrid, Griphook, Dragomir Despard/Ron Weasley, Bellatrix Lestrange/Hermione Granger, Bogrod, Ricbert, two goblin bankers, two guards and a Death Eater.

No Deathly Hallows Gringotts scene would be complete without a giant Ukrainian Ironbelly Dragon, either, and you can perch the giant beast atop the bank to complete the towering display. The dragon, bank and vaults together measure a staggering 75cm tall, while the bank alone sits 36cm tall. You can place it at the end of Diagon Alley, as per the box, or sit it between the buildings for a horizontal shelf display.

76417 Gringotts Wizarding Bank Collectors’ Edition launches September 1 for VIPs, or September 4 for everyone else, for £369.99 / $429.99 / €429.99.

75978 Diagon Alley is available now for £389.99 / $449.99 / €449.99, and includes Ollivanders Wand Shop, Scribbulus Writing Implements, Quality Quidditch Supplies, the Daily Prophet office, Florean Fortescue’s Ice Cream Parlour, Flourish & Blotts and Weasleys’ Wizard Wheezes.

I like to think of myself as a journalist first, LEGO fan second, but we all know that’s not really the case. Journalism does run through my veins, though, like some kind of weird literary blood – the sort that will no doubt one day lead to a stress-induced heart malfunction. It’s like smoking, only worse. Thankfully, I get to write about LEGO until then.
