LEGO Harry Potter Advent Calendar review reveals new packaging

An early look at LEGO 76418 LEGO Harry Potter Advent Calendar has revealed a switch-up to its interior packaging – with a potential flaw.

Christmas has come early! It might only be August but LEGO YouTuber Ashnflash has got his hands on LEGO Harry Potter Advent Calendar already. He has walked us through every door and what lies behind it in a full video, but one misfire has exposed a potential issue with the new packaging setup.

While LEGO advent calendars have traditionally got plastic dividers, the LEGO Group is employing a number of ways to reduce the amount of plastic it produces, from cardboard Pick a Brick boxes and cardboard packaging for Collectible Minifigures. As Ashnflash demonstrates, the cardboard dividers in 76418 LEGO Harry Potter Advent Calendar slot together, but it does appear to leave small gaps between the different sections.

At one point, this does mean that the LEGO YouTuber pulls out the wrong bag halfway by mistake. It’s easy for him to tuck it bag in and he seemed to realise quite quickly that it was the wrong bag, so it’s not too serious of an issue. Nonetheless, if an advent calendar is jostled too much in transit, the possibility of movement could mean that days get shuffled up before you can get to your doors to open them.

Still, perhaps some advent calendar mix-ups are worth it if it means that the LEGO Group can stick to its goal of making all its packaging from more sustainable sources by the end of 2025. Ultimately, Ashnflash had a great time unpacking his LEGO 76418 LEGO Harry Potter Advent Calendar, and the minifigures look suitable festive and fun so, whichever one pops out the wrong door, it’ll certainly be a gift worth getting.

76418 LEGO Harry Potter Advent Calendar will be available to buy for $44.99 from September 1, 2023, well in advance of Christmastime.

I write about all the very best fandoms – and that means LEGO, of course. Spending so much time looking at and talking about LEGO sets is dangerous for my bank balance, but the LEGO shelves are thriving. You win some, you lose some.

Every Lego event calendar I have ever opened has had a single mold divider that appears to be some kind of composite recycled paper, not plastic. I’m not sure why you say they are plastic unless it’s varying in different regions of the world. Those old dividers were perfection, no gaps. To me the new cardboard one pictured seems like a cost saver rather than eco friendly.
