LEGO Icons 10323 PAC-MAN Arcade includes an impressive mechanical maze
There’s an impressive and ingenious mechanical maze feature included inside the upcoming LEGO Icons 10323 PAC-MAN Arcade.
The official reveal of LEGO Icons 10323 PAC-MAN Arcade takes builders back to the 80s with a retro video game cabinet based on Bandai Namco’s famous dot-munching character. Arriving on June 1 for VIPs, with a wider launch for everyone else on June 4, the 2,651-piece celebrates PAC-MAN’s 43rd anniversary with a model that’s packed with features and attention-to-detail.

From the set’s light-up coin slot and accurate graphics to a hidden area containing a gaming minifigure (playing on the PAC-MAN arcade cabinet) and rotating BLINKY and CLYDE ghosts, 10323 PAC-MAN Arcade would seem to have it all. One of the build’s most impressive and ingenious features is a mechanical maze that’s contained within the interior of the model.
By turning the crank handle on the side of the machine, it’s possible to simulate PAC-MAN chasing ghosts, as in the original arcade game. The functionality is similar to that of 71374 Nintendo Entertainment System and appears to have presented just as much of a challenge to the team behind the upcoming LEGO Icons set.
“I could say 70% of the whole set development was devoted just to that mechanism,” explains LEGO designer Sven Franic. “We developed a new chain element so that we can just attach these little characters to the side of it. There’s a little black chain that goes around inside with several functions connected all working together.”
It’s possible to open up the back of 10323 PAC-MAN Arcade and see the chain working in real-time while turning the crank, with the front screen of the cabinet including 1×1 printed elements featuring the title character and his four different coloured ghosts foes.
LEGO Icons 10323 PAC-MAN Arcade will be launching for VIPs on June 1 and for everyone else from June 4, priced at £229.99 / $269.99 / €269.99. For more details on the upcoming set, be sure to check out our in-depth visual guide and gallery.
