The LEGO Ideas community demands a steampunk set, again
The community’s cries for a substantial LEGO steampunk set continue over on LEGO Ideas, this time in a submarine model with moving parts.
Another entry into the first 2026 LEGO Ideas review has been confirmed, as Liam Paradise’s Motorised Steampunk Submarine has reached the coveted 10,000 supporter target. The budding fan designer is regularly in review rounds and currently has two different submissions in review.
Their latest proposal follows up on one of those projects by continuing their exploration of all things steampunk. Steampunk is a subgenre of science fiction that mixes futuristic technology with designs inspired by 19th-century industry. That means plenty of gold, gears and steam.
The submarine build incorporates all of these and more and sits on a display stand packed with creative coral builds. It may remind you of the landscape in 10366 Tropical Aquarium. The underwater vessel has a detailed exterior with interesting part usage to evoke the steampunk aesthetic, including a few parts that can move.
Inside the submarine, there are four rooms for minifigures to stand in, and they’re not lacking in detail. The mechanisms that move the parts outside are on full show in the submarine as they continue the steampunk design. It’s a remarkable example of a situation where the LEGO Group wouldn’t need to hide a mechanism.
The LEGO Group’s exploration of steampunk in the official portfolio is limited to just one minifigure from 71048 Series 27, the face of which is included in the LEGO Ideas proposal.
This submission has joined the first 2026 LEGO Ideas review as project number 66 in the running to become a future set.
