LEGO is having issues with its new website

The refreshed version of LEGO.com is experiencing a few teething issues, which is pretty ominous given we’re just days away from dozens of new sets landing online.

Have you visited the LEGO website lately? If so, chances are you’ll have been met at least once with a screen stating: “Looks like something has gone wrong!” Exactly what’s gone wrong is entirely a mystery, but it’s a message that’s popped up for us while browsing theme pages, set pages, the sale and offers page and just generally across the website.

The new design has replaced the site’s original hover-menu with lists of clickable buttons, which feels like a more tactile and natural navigation experience, and has also introduced new features like browsing by price range. For the moment, though, it looks like the site isn’t working quite as intended – and that’s not good news for anyone.

Fingers crossed the LEGO Group manages to iron out these issues by Sunday, when dozens of new sets are due to launch all over the world. June’s ranges will finally hit US shelves, while new Star Wars, Marvel, Super Mario, Technic and more sets will debut for the first time across all markets.

That all adds up to what will surely be pretty substantial demand on LEGO.com’s servers – particularly as VIP members race to pick up the newly-revealed 40487 Sailboat Adventure gift-with-purchase – so here’s hoping the old narrative of a website plagued by tech problems doesn’t have cause to return.

I like to think of myself as a journalist first, LEGO fan second, but we all know that’s not really the case. Journalism does run through my veins, though, like some kind of weird literary blood – the sort that will no doubt one day lead to a stress-induced heart malfunction. It’s like smoking, only worse. Thankfully, I get to write about LEGO until then.
