LEGO proves its love for poop jokes once again

No one’s ever too old for poop jokes, but what happens when the poop itself gets too old? It ends up in a LEGO museum, of course.

LEGO Icons 10326 Natural History Museum is packed full of tiny exhibits and minute references to both real-life and LEGO history. LEGO designers Chris McVeigh and Aswin Visser walk us through some of the most exciting in the official LEGO designer video for the upcoming Modular Building. From a miniature sabre tooth tiger skull to recreations of space models, 10326 Natural History Museum is just as varied as real-life museums.

One object in particular, however, was left up to the fans to investigate.

“We also have some fossilised dinosaur eggs and something called coprolite,” explained Chris. “Which I will let you look up.”

Look it up we did and it revealed not only what the object under the glass dome is but also that the LEGO Group hasn’t lost its sense of humour. Coprolite is the fossilised faeces of animals that lived millions of years ago, not out of place to be found next to fossilised dinosaur eggs.

This isn’t the first time that the LEGO Group has made reference to toilet-related subjects. 71799 NINJAGO City Markets sparked widespread hilarity with a brown stud that could actually be flushed through a working plumbing system, and it wasn’t that long ago that a LEGO designer had to weigh in on the Great Toilet Paper or Towel Debate in LEGO Ideas 21338 A-Frame Cabin. Coming back to archaeological poop, we also got our very first buildable dung earlier this year.

Of course, it’s not all fun and games. A coprolite like this can give scientists clues about an animal’s diet, helping to build a better picture of an ecosystem from the past and how creatures of the time behaved. We can only imagine what our minifigure scientists and curator can learn from the brown swirl stored in 10326 Natural History Museum – and, to be honest, we think we’ll leave the faeces investigating to the experts.

I write about all the very best fandoms – and that means LEGO, of course. Spending so much time looking at and talking about LEGO sets is dangerous for my bank balance, but the LEGO shelves are thriving. You win some, you lose some.
