LEGO Speed Champions 76919 2023 McLaren Formula 1 Car revealed

Images of the fourth and final LEGO Speed Champions set racing on to shelves next month have finally landed online, giving us our first glimpse at 76919 2023 McLaren Formula 1 Car.

German retailer JB Spielwaren has published images of the sleek new racer, which comes in at 245 pieces for €26.99 in Europe. (Expect a UK price of £20.99 and a US price of $26.99, based on the other single LEGO Speed Champions cars launching in March.) And it recreates McLaren’s 2023 F1 car – just as it says on the tin – complete with its black, blue and orange (or papaya) livery.

The colours of the manufacturer’s 2023 car lean more heavily into black than the orange-dominated 2021 variant, which the LEGO Group tackled on a much bigger scale – and with an entirely different parts library – in 42141 McLaren Formula 1 Race Car. That LEGO Technic set came as a hybrid of two styles, popping the 2021 colour scheme on top of the 2022 car’s chassis. Its Speed Champions successor likewise uses last year’s livery.

That’s presumably a consequence of the design timelines to which the LEGO Group works, but you’ll find few reasons to complain given how impressive 76919 2023 McLaren Formula 1 Car looks anyway. It’s covered in stickers, as you’d expect from the sponsor-heavy world of F1, but printed tyres and wheel rims set it apart from its contemporaries in this theme.

It’s also only the second eight-studs-wide LEGO Speed Champions Formula 1 car, following 2022’s Mercedes-AMG F1 W12 E Performance, but rumours suggest it will be followed almost immediately by an Aston Martin AMR23 in June. Fingers crossed that materialises as reported, but for now, you’ll be able to pick up 76919 2023 McLaren Formula 1 Car from March 1.

A five-wide version of this F1 racer has already been revealed for release in March too. Check back for confirmation of the eight-wide set’s international pricing as soon as we get it.

I like to think of myself as a journalist first, LEGO fan second, but we all know that’s not really the case. Journalism does run through my veins, though, like some kind of weird literary blood – the sort that will no doubt one day lead to a stress-induced heart malfunction. It’s like smoking, only worse. Thankfully, I get to write about LEGO until then.
