Theme: Super Mario Price: £8.99 / $9.99 / €9.99 Pieces: 13 Available: August 1

Four small LEGO Super Mario sets offer different outfits for the adorable plumber. But rather than only provide a cosmetic change, each offers a new power that he can use to traverse LEGO levels. 71371 Propeller Mario Power-Up Pack offers Mario the power of flight.

For the Power-Up Pack to be of any use, fans need to first purchase 71360 Adventures with Mario Starter Course (review), which contains the Mario figure.

The set is inspired by the Power-Up that first appeared in New Super Mario Bros.

Switching Mario into his new outfit is simple. The hat is clipped on with studs and the overalls slide off, reader to be exchanged for those found in 71371 Propeller Mario Power-Up Pack. The box also includes two more platforms, which can be used to display the outfit or to extend a level.

Once Mario is wearing this outfit, he will earn additional points when swooped up and down or from side to side. The more vigorously and continuously he is swooped, the more coins he will earn.

For anyone recalling that 71360 Adventures with Mario Starter Course also includes the power of flight for Mario, thanks to the cloud, well… it does. So this is the least essential Power-Up Pack and probably only one for collectors who really must own the full range.

Of the four Power-Up Packs, this offers the least. As its main function is provided in the core set, it is for those who are collecting them all or really like the look of the outfit to dress Mario up in.
