LEGO Super Mario’s rumoured train needs one thing

A new list of LEGO Super Mario sets rumoured for this summer includes one odd addition that needs a specific inclusion to make it a success.

The latest rumours for LEGO Super Mario include everything from a trio of new starter packs to a new Peach’s Castle and even a treehouse but one set stands out for its vast potential. The list recently surfaced by way of itavixbrix, originally reported by brick_clicker and includes 71437 Bowser’s Train.

As identified in our original story, the most prominent train featuring Bowser’s likeness is the Bowser Express from Super Mario 3D World. Another Bowser vehicle from that game recently received a set too – 71431 Bowser’s Muscle Car.

71437 Bowser’s Train is rumoured to feature 1,392 pieces for $144.99. This would be the first train for LEGO Super Mario and likely the most colourful and whimsical LEGO train to date. While the rumour has yet to be confirmed, LEGO trains typically include one thing – track.

Usually, licensed LEGO trains that include track have a less generous piece count than 71437 Bowser’s Train is rumoured to. For instance, 76423 Hogwarts Express & Hogsmeade Station includes a small section of track and some ramps alongside the main model and station for $129.99 using 1,074 pieces. Compared to what’s rumoured for 71437 Bowser’s Train, the presence of any track doesn’t seem likely.

LEGO trains don’t necessarily need track though, they just need to be track-compatible. 76405 Hogwarts Express Collectors’ Edition was chosen to be deliberately bigger than the standard LEGO track and it has faced some criticism because of this design choice.

Thankfully, 71437 Bowser’s Train isn’t rumoured to be anywhere near as big or as expensive as 76405 Hogwarts Express Collectors’ Edition and to be roughly on scale with 71431 Bowser’s Muscle Car from the same game, the standard size for LEGO trains would work just fine.

While the rumoured 71437 Bowser’s Train may not include any track (judging by the price and piece count), it’s entirely possible for it to be compatible with LEGO train track and hopefully that’s the case for what is likely to be the strangest LEGO train to date. That’s as long as the rumour is accurate and all unconfirmed information should be taken with caution.
