LEGO Star Wars 40686 Trade Federation Troop Carrier review

LEGO Star Wars delivers a special throwback 25th anniversary gift-with-purchase for May the 4th with 40686 Trade Federation Troop Carrier.

Marking 25 years of LEGO Star Wars and 25 years since The Phantom Menace, 40686 Trade Federation Troop Carrier is the highlight gift-with-purchase available for this May the 4th. From May 1 to 5 inclusive, or while stocks last, 40686 Trade Federation Troop Carrier is being awarded with LEGO Star Wars purchases in LEGO Stores and at LEGO.com of £145 / $160 / €160.

That amount will also qualify you to receive – again while stocks last – 5008818 Battle of Yavin and polybag 30680 AAT, while there may also be further promotions (yet to be confirmed) on offer for the May 1-5 period too.

Aside from all the extras there, 40686 Trade Federation Troop Carrier is a very strong return to form for LEGO Star Wars GWPs, standing very much as its own set as much as it may be a promotional item. It stands as a credible build of something we’ve not seen in LEGO form since 2015 with the slightly different design of 75086 Battle Droid Troop Carrier, and as a nice call-back to one of the theme’s early, simpler sets, 7126 Battle Droid Carrier.

Embracing that same smaller size and simpler design, 40686 adds in enough modern and subtle detailing to stand as a more than credible addition to the collection, and certainly a high-quality gift-with-purchase to purposefully target picking up this May the 4th. Whilst the droid design is still rather stuck in 1999, the fact we get eight of them split between Pilot Battle Droids and regular Battle Droids is impressive and important for how it fills up the transporter.

In all, 40686 Trade Federation Troop Carrier ticks so many boxes as a credible and collectible gift-with-purchase available this May the 4th. Pick it up from LEGO.com or in LEGO Stores from May 1 to 5, while stocks last, awarded with LEGO Star Wars purchases of £145 / $160 / €160 or more.
