Mystery LEGO Super Mario 2023 set officially revealed

The official online store has revealed a mysterious new addition to the line-up of

sets launching in 2023.

An upcoming

subtheme was recently revealed, with four sets based around Donkey Kong and the simian’s supporting characters launching on August 1, 2023. The line-up of ape-based models follows in the footsteps of the Luigi’s Mansion subtheme and should certainly bring more variety to the range, despite the fact that every single set in the theme is due to retire by summer 2024.

Now, thanks to the Building Instructions page, we have confirmation of yet another

model arriving this year. A mystery listing on the official online store reveals that we’ll also be getting 71422 Picnic at Mario’s House Expansion Set, possibly this summer. The model appears to be the only Mario-centric build arriving in 2023 and may not be part of the upcoming Donkey Kong wave, although rumours suggest an 18+ set might also be launching later in the year.

There are currently no images of 71422 Picnic at Mario’s House Expansion Set available and a partial description only states, ‘Let’s go to Mario’s house for a picnic with the Yellow Yoshi. Eat cookies from the basket then us…’ Those details would seem to suggest the model may include a similar companion character as included in the 30509 Yellow Yoshi’s Fruit Tree promotional

, although that’s yet to be confirmed.
