The original LEGO NINJAGO animation studio is shutting down

The animation studio behind most of LEGO NINJAGO’s current seasons is shutting down due to financial struggles caused by the pandemic.

Those who have watched the first ten chapters of LEGO NINJAGO will have seen the work of Wil Film in action as the animation studio’s team brought the minifigures to life as they fought against the various enemies and forces that threatened NINJAGO.

Unfortunately, it has been announced on Facebook that Wil Film is currently in the process of shutting down.

“Since we experienced an ongoing production unexpectedly being paused for 8 months, in the midst of a global pandemic, we’ve struggled to recover from the financial hit we took,” shared Erik Wilstrup, CEO of Wil Film.

“For many months we’ve been in talks about new seasons on some of the shows we’ve produced, but the greenlight has not arrived in time for the studio to have a sustainable future in its current form.

“That being said, it’s important to remind ourselves about what a wonderful ride it’s been. What fantastic and memorable times we’ve had, and of course the breathtaking amount of wonderful animation being produced in collaboration with our amazing co-workers, partners and clients.”

Members of the LEGO NINJAGO team took to social media following the announcement to share their thoughts on the closure, including Tommy Andreasen and Simon Lucas.

This is unlikely going to affect the future of LEGO NINJAGO since the newer seasons have since been allocated to WildBrain Studios, though that makes the news no less unfortunate for those working at the company.

Wil Film also worked on other LEGO projects including LEGO Star Wars: The Freemaker Adventures and more specials from a galaxy, far, far away as well as several advertisements for the LEGO Group.
