How to remix LEGO Art into The Boys, Breaking Bad, Stranger Things and more

Looking for new ways to use your existing LEGO Art sets? Go beyond the basics with Breaking Bad, The Boys, Stranger Things and more – all using pieces from official models.

The LEGO Group’s brick-built mosaics have been a treasure trove of alternate models from the very beginning, and that principle now extends to 2022 sets including 31205 Jim Lee Batman Collection, 31204 Elvis Presley “The King” and 31207 Floral Art. Instagram user KCZD has assembled a catalogue of characters we’ll likely never see in official mosaics, and you can recreate them using only the pieces you’ll find in this year’s LEGO Art sets.

Several designs require more than one copy of a specific set, or a combination of multiple different sets, but you’ll never need to turn to BrickLink or start rooting around in your own surplus parts collection: they can all be achieved solely with the tiles or plates included in the official LEGO Art mosaics.

A single copy of 31205 Jim Lee Batman Collection, for instance, will give you all the pieces you need to create mosaics of Wolverine, Ahsoka Tano and Captain Jack Sparrow. Add a second copy in, and your options open up to Cad Bane, the Winter Soldier, Saul Goodman and multiple characters from Amazon’s The Boys. It makes sense: the DC set includes a huge variety of versatile colours for Batman, Joker and Harley Quinn, all of which are perfectly suited for other pop culture characters.

Much the same can be said for the mix of nougat shades in 31204 Elvis Presley “The King”, which KCZD has repurposed for portraits of Anakin Skywalker, Stranger Things’ Eddie Munson and Breaking Bad’s Jesse Pinkman. You can pair that with a mosaic of Walter White by combining two copies of 31207 Floral Art, the cheapest LEGO Art set to date.

Best of all, KCZD has provided free instructions for many of their designs on their Instagram page, while the others are fairly simple to recreate by zooming in on the images (these are only two-dimensional designs, of course). The only downside? You might find yourself devoting far too much of your budget to LEGO Art sets now that you know what else is possible…

31204 Elvis Presley “The King”, 31205 Jim Lee Batman Collection and 31207 Floral Art are all available to order from LEGO.com now. Check out our review of the DC set by clicking here.

I like to think of myself as a journalist first, LEGO fan second, but we all know that’s not really the case. Journalism does run through my veins, though, like some kind of weird literary blood – the sort that will no doubt one day lead to a stress-induced heart malfunction. It’s like smoking, only worse. Thankfully, I get to write about LEGO until then.
