Rumoured LEGO 2K Goooal! release date may have been revealed

A potential release date may have been revealed for the upcoming rumoured brick-based football video game, LEGO 2K Goooal!

Rumours surrounding a possible LEGO 2K football game have been swirling since late last year, when a mysterious polybag appeared on the LEGO Group’s official product certification page. Now, following the successful launch of LEGO 2K Drive, a new interactive sports-based title might be arriving in the next few months.

Thanks to South Korean and Taiwanese classification ratings, we already know that the so-far-unannounced LEGO 2K Goooal! will be available to play on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC platforms. The follow-up is part of a multi-game partnership between the LEGO Group and 2K, with plans for a third title already in the works.

Despite any official announcements from either company, a recent listing on Amazon UK may have accidentally leaked when LEGO 2K Goooal! might be launching. As spotted by Gematsu on Twitter and reported by VGC, a holding page for a version of the game on PS5 states a release date of September 15, 2023, with a price of £37.50. However, the listing has since been removed, suggesting it might have been posted in error or sooner than originally planned.

Last year, VGC exclusively revealed that 2K had signed a multi-game partnership with the LEGO Group and that a football-based title would be developed by Sumo Digital, the studio behind Sackboy: A Big Adventure, Team Sonic Racing and Snake Pass. A third game reported to be in development by 2K is said to be ‘based on a major sports franchise,’ although there’s currently no word on what exactly that may be.

At this stage, the potential release date for LEGO 2K Goooal! still remains pure speculation until officially confirmed by either company, but a launch close to the start of the upcoming 2023-2024 Premier League season would certainly seem to make a lot of sense. In the meantime, fans of the beautiful game can always get some practice in by picking up 40634 Icons of Play.
