LEGO Speed Champions 2023 sets use unique bricks for perfect shapes

The upcoming wave of LEGO Speed Champions has some of the most interesting building techniques yet, using specific pieces for shaping.

On March 1, 2023, four more LEGO Speed Champions will launch following the release of 76917 2 Fast 2 Furious Nissan Skyline GT-R (R34). These include 76915 Pagani Utopia, introducing another manufacturer to the theme, 76916 Porsche 963 and 76918 McLaren Solus GT & McLaren F1 LM.

These three models demonstrate some interesting building techniques that perfectly replicate the shapes and other features of the vehicles.

The first LEGO Pagani set makes good use of LEGO vehicle doors to capture the angled shaping around the central exhaust of the Utopia. The presence of LEGO ice skates at the front of the vehicle are an extra added detail and should come in handy if the driver is near an ice rink or safe frozen surface too.

76916 Porsche 963 represents a kind of race car not featured commonly in LEGO Speed Champions but one of the most interesting details is not a result of this overall design. The lights at the front of the car use transparent semi-circular tiles angled on studs to follow the shape of the vehicle, but without needing to be heavily integrated into the rest of the build.

The upcoming 76918 McLaren Solus GT & McLaren F1 LM double pack has an especially interesting detail in the LEGO Solus GT. The real (or as real as a concept car can be) Solus GT has a display on a carbon fiber steering wheel with buttons for vehicle setting adjustments, but with a narrow shape similar to Formula 1 steering wheels.

In the set, a LEGO video game controller piece has been used, perfectly matching the appearance of the ‘real‘ steering wheel with a folding feature to more easily access the driver’s seat.
