Stan Lee was discussed for a LEGO Avengers Tower minifigure

When deciding on minifigures for LEGO Marvel 76269 Avengers Tower, one popular fan choice has indeed been discussed among the LEGO designers.

The late Stan Lee is the heart and soul of Marvel for many fans, having led Marvel Comics to success back in the ’60s and later making cameos in every MCU movie until his death in 2017. However, he has never appeared as a LEGO Marvel minifigure, even in what is arguably the magnum opus for the theme, 76269 Avengers Tower.

Instead, Kevin Feige appears as President Marvel, sporting his trusty baseball cap. In an interview with MiniSuperHeroesToday, the LEGO designers behind the enormous LEGO Marvel set confirmed that Stan Lee has been discussed when designing 76269 Avengers Tower.

“That has always been a discussion,” answered LEGO Senior Graphic Designer Mark Tranter. “Everyone on the team [says] we should put Stan Lee in it. But it’s just not been possible so far. Kevin, on the other hand, has been.”

Whether this decision is creatively or legally not possible is unclear, but at least we know that the LEGO designers seem as keen for Stan Lee to appear as the fans are. If it ever does become possible, we can likely assume that Stan Lee will be on his way.

Later, when also asked about the seemingly random inclusion of the Wasp, the LEGO designers dug into how they chose a number of different minifigures – something that has perplexed some fans of the theme.

“Mark has LEGO-ised the first Avengers comicbook [in a sticker] and it’s laying on the floor in there,” explained LEGO Superheroes Designer Mark Stafford. “If you look at the original Avengers, there’s Ant-Man, there’s Wasp. They’re there in the movies and they’re original Avengers, so we felt we had to include them.”

“And also more winged characters,” added Justin Ramsden. “We just want to have everyone flying, so Falcon made sense, the Wasp makes sense.”

“They’re just cool,” summed up Mark Tranter.

It’s hard to argue with that, even if there are some LEGO Marvel fans nitpicking with the minifigure selection. 76269 Avengers Tower comes with a wide variety of transparent elements designed to allow you to pose the flying Marvel minifigures in every way you can imagine, with different levels, angles, and positions available. With that in mind, the inclusion of seemingly random characters like Wong, the Wasp, and the Falcon does make that much more sense.
