Star Wars: Ahsoka first trailer breakdown

A trailer for Star Wars: Ahsoka has finally been revealed, with a release window, and we’re breaking down everything in the footage for the series.

The main showcase panel at Star Wars Celebration 2023 has revealed the initial trailer for Star Wars: Ahsoka and there’s a lot to break down, especially for enthusiasts of a certain animated series.

Those who haven’t seen Star Wars: Rebels will likely be a bit lost as the trailer includes returning characters, vehicles and more taken straight from the animated series. However, there’s still time to watch the show before Ahsoka arrives in August 2023.

The footage starts with Ahsoka exploring a ruined structure, employing a signature spinning move to cut through the floor. Why she’s here is unknown, though later in the trailer, robotic figures ambush and attack her outside the structure.

Our first look at Sabine Wren in live action follows, staring at her Mandalorian helmet as a Loth-cat looks on. It’s not the first time we’ve seen a Loth-cat in live action but given their importance in Star Wars: Rebels, it’s good to see one in this show.

The Phantom II is seen chasing another ship carrying a large object with Hera piloting, showcasing her live-action appearance too. Just after this, Chopper is featured riding on the outside of the ship, waving his arms just like in the animated series.

A hooded character wielding a red lightsaber attacks a ship and a brief glimpse at a bearded figure who also wields a red lightsaber is shown before a longer appearance later in the trailer. These could be inquisitors looking to strike Ahsoka down, though they’re not the first to try as seen in Tales of the Jedi and Rebels.

A Jedi T-6 Shuttle, which is rumoured to be getting a set later this year, is seen flying away from LothalNet comm tower E-272, a location featured prominently in Rebels and towards the capital city, flanked by a pair of X-wing Fighters.

That same ship is seen docked in the capital city as Ahsoka meets with Sabine, possibly to invite her on whatever adventure the series will revolve around.

Mon Mothma and a group of similarly formal-dressed figures appear as holograms before one of the most exciting shots of the trailer – live-action Thrawn. The character’s blue skin, hair and uniform are undoubtedly present as he walks through the golden interior of what could be a ship or a base.

Hera returns in a sequence of quick shots also featuring the bearded inquisitor as Ahsoka engages in battle. Their surroundings somewhat resemble the World Between Worlds, though the presence of material structures makes that more unlikely.

As those who have seen Rebels might have guessed, a hologram of what appears to be live-action Ezra Bridger seems to confirm that the search for him and Thrawn will be a focus of the series.

Another battle with an inquisitor follows and the trailer closes with a look at Huyang, who is rumoured to appear in 75362 Ahsoka’s T-6 Shuttle alongside an Inquisitor-like figure.

A few LEGO Star Wars sets are rumoured for the Ahsoka series, which would make sense as every Star Wars Disney+ show has received at least one set so far.
