Toys R Us stores to open in the USA this year
Toys R Us is planning to re-open in the USA with a handful of stores and online shop this year.
Tru Kids Inc is the company that Richard Barry and several other former Toys R Us executives managed to create from the bankruptcy of the original company, which he has been attempting to persuade the toy industry to back. It seems that after plenty of chatter over the past year, the brand may be back.
The new iteration of the retail chain would see six stores open in the USA this year, at approximately one third of the size of traditional warehouse Toys R Us stores, with a greater focus on the in-store experience. According to Bloomberg’s sources, Barry wants suppliers to ship stock they would not seek payment for until it was sold. Given that not all creditors were paid when LEGO stockist Toys R Us went into liquidation, it is a big ask.
“This market needs a self-standing toy store, that’s for sure,”said MGA Chief Executive Officer Isaac Larian. “We will sell them inventory.”
Australia recently saw the return of Toys R Us under new ownership.
