LEGO House reveals world’s biggest brick-built football

The LEGO House has revealed its latest display piece as the world’s biggest football made from bricks, just in time for a sporty confrontation between Denmark and Germany.

From June 2 until July 11, The LEGO House in Billund will be home to this enormous and surprisingly not-round model. A total of 173,600 2×2 bricks were used in the creation and applied by staff at the house whilst stuck in lockdown. Even LEGO House CEO Jesper Vilstrup contributed to the giant ball.

A video provided by the destination recounts the construction of this creation with the elements applied to a metal frame, making the final display hollow like a real football.

“The football design is the iconic football that everyone can recognise,” said Experience Manager Søren Hansen Hinge. “We could have used the design from the European Championship, but I’m not sure everyone would recognise it as a football, even though it looks great.”

At two and a half tonnes and over four metres tall, the model is sure to draw the eye of visitors of the LEGO House now that it has reopened following the COVID-19 lockdown.
