LEGO fans raise $18,000 for victim of burglary
Following worldwide attention, supportive LEGO fans have raised funds to help Louis “republicattak”, the French YouTuber who had his collection stolen.
At the weekend, Louise, who goes by republicattak on YouTube, shared a video in which he showed that his house had been broken into, with his LEGO collection stolen. Shared by media around the world, in the video the LEGO fan is clearly distraught.
In response to the video, US based LEGO fan Ryan McCullough set up a GoFundMe page which raised $18,350 from 931 people in just 24 hours. That is approximately the value of the collection that Louis had accumulated over 14 years and was stolen.
Many positive comments came alongside the donations, including this one from Jeremy: “Do not give up what you love to do man!!!! You’re awesome at it and from the looks of it you have a ton of people who support you. It’s not much but I hope it helps you reach your goals.”
The 20-year-old’s video clocked up nearly 600,000 views in just two days and drew thousands of mostly sympathetic comments from Lego enthusiasts around the world.
Fans in France have been asked to be vigilant for the stolen items being made available to purchase on selling platforms, message boards or social media groups. Some of the highest value items stolen were 75192 Millennium Falcon, 75220 Slave I and 75009 Jabba’s Palace. If the items do come up for sale in suspicious circumstances, Louis can be reached via Twitter.
