LEGO Orient Express brings back yet another Adventurers minifigure

The LEGO Group is going all-in on its Adventurers minifigure remakes in December, as 21344 The Orient Express Train brings back yet another character from the beloved ‘90s theme.

10326 Natural History Museum is already bringing back the legendary Dr. Kilroy from LEGO Adventurers, now reimagined as the curator of the latest modular building. That 4,014-piece model is due to arrive on shelves on December 1 – the same day 21344 The Orient Express Train rolls out of Billund, bringing with it a revamped and reimagined Pippin Reed minifigure.

Now wearing a muted teal jacket and dark red trousers (compared to her original getup of bright green jacket and bright red trousers), Pippin Reed is one of four passengers riding aboard the LEGO Orient Express, which is based on a concept by fan designer Thomas Lajon. She’s picked up the pen again as a writer, building on her journalistic credentials in the Adventurers theme, and here tells the story of the Orient Express as you progress through the building instructions.

The new Pippin Reed (who was also known as Gail Storm and Linda Lovely in the ‘90s, when lore meant little) also swaps out her classic pith hat for a hat-and-hair combo first seen in LEGO Hidden Side, recoloured exclusively in 21344 The Orient Express Train. While you might have to squint to see the resemblance to a certain degree, bear in mind that there are nearly three decades of design improvements between these two minifigures.

When she joins the new Dr. Kilroy on shelves on December 1, Pippin Reed will complete the trio of revamped LEGO Adventurers lead characters. Johnny Thunder has already received an update in the Collectible Minifigures range, appearing in 71025 Series 19 with the name ‘Jungle Explorer’, which graphic designer Austin Carlson has confirmed is an intentional nod to the classic minifigure.

While the LEGO Group’s recent nostalgia drive has yet to properly revisit Adventurers (outside of a bunch of Easter eggs in the retiring 10273 Haunted House), the pieces for revamping the sets yourself are all starting to fall into place. Once you’ve added Pippin Reed and Dr. Kilroy’s 21st-century updates to your collection, all you need to do is grab an Indiana Jones set and toss them in with Johnny Thunder…

21344 The Orient Express Train and 10326 Natural History Museum are both available from December 1, with pre-orders for the latest modular building open now.

I like to think of myself as a journalist first, LEGO fan second, but we all know that’s not really the case. Journalism does run through my veins, though, like some kind of weird literary blood – the sort that will no doubt one day lead to a stress-induced heart malfunction. It’s like smoking, only worse. Thankfully, I get to write about LEGO until then.

Is it possible to upgrade Orient Express with power functions like Winter Holliday Train?

Not officially unfortunately, we’ll have to see if someone figures out a way to fit everything in after launch.
