The best LEGO Christmas gifts for… LEGO minifigure collectors

Lovers of LEGO minifigures can expand their collection (or better show off their existing ones) with our handy Christmas purchasing guide.

LEGO minifigures are one of the LEGO Group’s most familiar creations, and (whisper it) often a deciding factor in what we purchase. While you can buy them separately, buying minifigures within a set is generally more cost-effective – and gives you something to interact with into the bargain.

As such, we’ve tracked down some of the best options for today’s LEGO minifigure fans:

6 – 60314 Ice Cream Truck Police Chase

Theme: City Price: £24.99 / $39.99 / €29.99 Pieces: 317 Available: Now

LEGO City isn’t usually renowned for its minifigures, but its diverse subject matter can occasionally surprise us. 60314 Ice Cream Truck Police Chase is one of the wackier sets to appear in the theme lately, including a pair of crooks in stylish ice cream costumes. Blue and pink costumes are included, as is a generic police officer.

This set is ideal if you’re looking for some more unusual minifigure designs. The Stuntz theme is also ideal for this kind of thing, but the novelty of the ice cream costumes gave this one the edge.

5 – 40525 Endgame Battle

Theme: Marvel Price: £13.49 / $14.99 / €14.99 Pieces: 62 Available: Now

Licensed sets obviously have minifigures as a draw, but they’re usually split across multiple (expensive) models, making minifigure collection tedious. 40525 Endgame Battle is a welcome bucking of this trend. It includes a very nice version of Thor, as well as Valkyrie, Korg, a generic Chitauri warrior, and Miek in a bladed battle suit.

If you’ve been looking for an easy way into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, this set is a great choice. However, it’s also scheduled to retire soon – so you may want to act fast on this one.

4 – 40516 Everyone is Awesome

Theme: Icons Price: £30.99 / $34.99 / €34.99 Pieces: 346 Availabile: Now

Inspired in part by that LEGO Movie song, 40516 Everyone is Awesome is designed as a tribute to LGBT+ people. Its colour scheme references multiple corners of the queer community, including transgender people and people of colour. It’s proven very popular as a set, with its retirement date pushed back to next year as a result.

If you’re looking to expand your monofig collection (LEGO minifigures made of entirely one colour) 40516 Everyone is Awesome has obvious value. It also has some great hair elements in a rainbow of colours, making it a good choice if you want to add some vibrancy to your minifigure population.

3 – 10291 Queer Eye – The Fab Five Loft

Theme: Icons Price: £89.99 / $99.99 / €99.99 Pieces: 974 Available: Now

Reality show Queer Eye is one of the more unexpected partnerships with the LEGO Group in recent years, although the show’s messages of acceptance and understanding are pretty LEGO-friendly. However, the set may not have resonated with a broader audience: it’s been significantly discounted at LEGO.com, and was even offered with triple VIP points on one occasion.

What can’t be disputed is the quality of its minifigures – which makes sense, given the show’s focus on fashion and personal grooming. Tan, Karamo, Jonathan, Antoni and Bobby each boast accurate facial features and intricate body printing, with heels, shorts and patterned shirts depicted across the set’s seven total minifigures. There’s even a handful of replacement torsos, legs and hair elements, allowing you to further spice up the Fab Five and their client Kathi.

If you’re looking to bring a new level of detail and sophistication to your minifigures, this set is the natural choice. And with a current 40% discount on the RRP, you don’t even need to have watched the show to justify the purchase.

2 – 21337 Table Football

Theme: Ideas Price: £214.99 / $249.99 / €249.99 Pieces: 2339 Available: Now

A recent entry in the LEGO Ideas range, 21337 Table Football offers a compact foosball table for you and a friend to enjoy. While the set’s overall design has drawn some criticism, it immediately stands out for its wide selection of faces and skin tones. These allow you to (with some caveats) craft a highly personalised football team – and have plenty of leftover minifigure heads and hair elements for other projects.

A runaway success in both quantity and quality, this set is perfect if you want a diverse, realistic group of people in your LEGO builds. With several different options out of the box, you’ll struggle to find a better deal in a LEGO set than this if you’re a minifigure collector.

1 – Wicked Brick display cases

If you’re looking to show off the minifigures you already have, a display case from Wicked Brick may be what you’re looking for. These offer a stylish, dust-proof display option for your LEGO sets, and can (in some cases) be wall mounted as well.

This wall-mounted minifigure display case is a solid option here, coming in a variety of sizes. It displays a minimum of 25 minifigures, or a maximum of 150 if you choose one with more rows.
