Closer look at new LEGO Star Wars Super Battle Droid upgrade

The various changes and upgrades made to LEGO Star Wars’ Super Battle Droids have been revealed in an early look at the 2024 battle pack.

Super Battle Droids are changing in 2024 as the uncommon characters return to the theme with an overhauled design. Official images have showcased much of the changes and now some copies of 75372 Clone Trooper & Battle Droid Battle Pack have been found and detailed online by MandRproductions. This means we take a peek at exactly what has happened to LEGO Star Wars Super Battle Droids ahead of the set’s launch on January 1, 2024.

Upon first glance, the changes appear to be minimal but closer inspection reveals the true extent of the upgrades as part of this makeover. Overall, there is little doubt that the changes made are positive when it comes to accuracy and appearance. From the red light indent to the overall sharper shaping and appearance, even the internal workings of the figure on display at the back have been amended, likely to increase the sturdiness of the figures. While the red light indent is not appropriately coloured, that may be too much to ask of the LEGO Group’s current printing technology given its small size.

As well as the body, the arms have been changed with sharper shaping and it appears that the legs have received a minor makeover too, though it’s harder to tell than it is with the other elements.

The older LEGO Star Wars Super Battle Droid design was prone to having the clips used on the arms and legs snap under pressure over time. The early look states that the process of clipping the legs and arms into the bar feels the same but notes that surely this has been improved too and only time will tell.

Three of the new Super Battle Droids are included in 75372 Clone Trooper & Battle Droid Battle Pack for £24.99 / $29.99 / €29.99 with 215 pieces in the set overall. You can pick up one or more copies from January 1, 2024.

LEGO has been a part of my life ever since I was young. It all started when my brother passed down 7657 AT-ST to me. It’s guided me through my early years, through school and eventually through my degree in journalism. I still have all my collection proudly on display, including my many NINJAGO sets, my favourite of all the LEGO Group’s themes. Outside of Brick Fanatics I am an avid gamer and enjoy a good game of Dungeons & Dragons.
