DC Studios’ Blue Beetle film moves to cinema release

DC has officially announced a release date and provided the first look at their upcoming Blue Beetle movie which is due for release next year.

At a surprise DC Panel at CCXP 2022, DC Studios showcased the first look at Blue Beetle, an upcoming movie in their cinematic slate as well as shared when you’ll be able to watch it.

Scheduled for release on August 18, 2023, the big news here is the announcement that Blue Beetle is coming to cinemas, as it was originally scheduled for a streaming launch on HBO Max. This follows the news that DC Studios would be led by James Gunn and Peter Safran to form a more cohesive future for the DCU. It’s already been announced that future games will be part of the DCU too.

Now that Blue Beetle is launching cinemas rather than a streaming service, it may affect the likelihood of it getting sets at some point in the future. In a recent interview, designer Mark Stafford revealed that at least part of the reason for the lack of LEGO DC sets as of late has been due to DC’s limited film slate.

Nothing has been confirmed regarding the future of LEGO DC at this time but it could be that as DC studios restructures its plans, the likelihood of LEGO DC creations will increase. Notably, Blue Beetle has a minifigure with a specialised piece thanks to 76054 Batman: Scarecrow Harvest of Fear from 2016.

LEGO has been a part of my life ever since I was young. It all started when my brother passed down 7657 AT-ST to me. It’s guided me through my early years, through school and eventually through my degree in journalism. I still have all my collection proudly on display, including my many NINJAGO sets, my favourite of all the LEGO Group’s themes. Outside of Brick Fanatics I am an avid gamer and enjoy a good game of Dungeons & Dragons.
