DC Studios head confirms Blue Beetle movie still releasing in 2023

James Gunn of DC Studios has confirmed that Blue Beetle is still releasing in 2023 following casting announcements and reported sequel troubles.

DC’s cinematic endeavours are currently undergoing a transformation with Peter Safran and James Gunn now leading DC Studios. These have included reports of sequel troubles and the reveal that Henry Cavill would no longer be playing the role of Superman in the DCEU.

As such, one Twitter user wondered if the Blue Beetle’s film recently revealed change from a streaming release to a cinema launch would be affected. In response, Gunn has confirmed that the Blue Beetle movie is still releasing in 2023.

Since it has been revealed that a lack of DC movies is partially responsible for the fewer amount of LEGO DC sets in 2022, a movie may be what the theme needs for more models.

However, it may depend on when the Blue Beetle was decided to be switched from streaming to the big screen behind the scenes. For comparison, look at the number of Marvel sets based on projects released in theatres and the one Collectible Minifigures Series and two sets (76194 Tony Stark’s Sakaarian Iron Man and 76201 Captain Carter & The Hydra Stomper) based on those launched on streaming services.

Currently, nothing has been confirmed for the future of LEGO DC but fans of the superhero franchise can at least look forward to Blue Beetle on August 18, 2023.

LEGO has been a part of my life ever since I was young. It all started when my brother passed down 7657 AT-ST to me. It’s guided me through my early years, through school and eventually through my degree in journalism. I still have all my collection proudly on display, including my many NINJAGO sets, my favourite of all the LEGO Group’s themes. Outside of Brick Fanatics I am an avid gamer and enjoy a good game of Dungeons & Dragons.
