Five characters we can’t wait to play as in LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga

Following the reveal of its complete character roster, we’ve identified five characters we’re looking forward to using in LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga.

Scheduled for release in the next few weeks, LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga is shaping up to be a special game for Star Wars and LEGO fans alike. The game takes in a massive chunk of the Star Wars universe, allowing players to see multiple worlds, take on various tasks and meet plenty of familiar characters. Over 400 are confirmed to appear in the game, giving us plenty to choose from.

With that in mind, we’ve picked out five characters we’re sure to have a good time with:

5 – Plo Koon

This alien Jedi first pops up in the prequel era of the Star Wars movies, and shares a special bond with fellow Jedi Ahsoka Tano. Making several appearances in the Clone Wars TV show, Plo Koon was tragically executed by his fellow clone troopers. Of course, through the magic of LEGO that’s not necessarily a dealbreaker.

While we’re not expecting any unusual abilities, Plo Koon’s honourable nature makes him a great Jedi. His distinctive mask (which allows him to breathe in oxygen-rich environments) also sets him apart on a visual level.

4 – Admiral Holdo

Amilyn Holdo has a small but significant role in the Star Wars sequel trilogy. Taking command of the Resistance after General Leia is incapacitated, she manages to lead the Resistance to safety and (eventually) bring down the First Order. Her decision to ram the First Order fleet with a starship at light speed was later dubbed the Holdo Maneuver in her honour, and remains one of The Last Jedi’s most memorable scenes.

Given her relatively short screen time, being able to play as her in a LEGO game is a rare treat. Her purple hair element is also rather delightful.

3 – Tusken Raider

For much of Star Wars’ history, the Tusken Raiders have been shrouded in mystery. They’re generally depicted as a savage, antagonistic force in early Star Wars media. However, shows like The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett have worked to lend them more nuance and cultural context.

The Tusken Raiders appear here as part of the Scavenger class, giving them similar abilities to Rey and the Ewoks. Seeing these characters move beyond one-note monsters (and embracing new play possibilities) is certainly an intriguing prospect.

2 – Maz Kanata

This pint-sized alien has lived for over a thousand years, and seen some of the galaxy’s greatest conflicts. She crosses paths with Rey, Finn, Han and Chewbacca in The Force Awakens, encouraging Rey to walk the path of the Jedi. She also proves an ally in The Last Jedi, guiding Finn and Rose towards a code-breaker on Canto Bight.

Within The Skywalker Saga Maz is a scoundrel, placing her in the same group as Han Solo and Lando Calrissian. We’ll be intrigued to see if her advanced years have left any tricks up her sleeve.

1 – Dexter Jettster

This four-armed Besalisk runs a diner on the planet Coruscant, and confers with a young Obi-Wan during Attack of the Clones. He eventually directs Obi-Wan to Kamino, where the massive clone army is discovered.

Dexter is certainly on the obscure side; his appearances outside of Attack of the Clones have been limited to a handful of comics and audiobooks. However, he does appear in the very first LEGO Star Wars game as the proprietor of Dexter’s Diner, the game’s hub world. As such, seeing him appear in this new LEGO game is rather gratifying – especially as, unlike these other characters, he has yet to earn a minifigure of his own.

LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga debuts on various platforms on April 5. Don’t forget to check out our guide to the game before you play.
