Five perfect pairings for LEGO Ideas 21342 The Insect Collection

LEGO Ideas 21342 The Insect Collection has been revealed and those eager to build the bugs can pick up some perfect pairings ahead of launch.

21342 The Insect Collection is releasing on September 4 for LEGO Insiders and September 7 for everyone else, for £69.99 / $79.99 / €79.99. LEGO insects with this level of detail are uncommon, but that’s not to say that they have to sit alone in your home.

While it’s not too much longer to wait until you can buy it, eager insect enthusiasts can create a dedicated brick-built space for the LEGO Ideas builds with five more models, even making up for the full-sized bugs that are missing from the set.

5 – 10313 Wildflower Bouquet

Year: 2023 Price: £54.99 / $59.99 / €59.99 Pieces: 939 Retired: No

10313 Wildflower Bouquet is roughly to scale with the ladybird and honeybee, the latter of which could be an ideal addition to any one of the LEGO Botanical Collection sets.

The colourful array of flowers in 10313 Wildflower Bouquet is our pick though for its more natural appearance and the potential to lay them out however you would like.

4 – 21301 Birds

Year: 2015 Price: £39.99 / $44.99 / €44.99 Pieces: 580 Retired: Yes

21301 Birds may not be on the same scale as 21342 The Insect Collection, but it too features a trio of brick-built animals using various clever building techniques.

Displaying the six builds alongside each other on a shelf could make for an eye-catching collection, though you’ll have to source a copy of the retired set should you have missed out on 21301 Birds in 2015.

3 – 76039 Ant-Man Final Battle

Year: 2015 Price: £19.99 / $19.99 / €24.99 Pieces: 195 Retired: Yes

76039 Ant-Man Final Battle also includes a detailed insect that will fit right in alongside the Blue Morpho Butterfly, Hercules Beetle and Chinese Mantis in 21342 The Insect Collection

Detailed LEGO insects at this scale are uncommon, but not impossible to find, though you’ll need to dig into the secondary market to find this LEGO Marvel model.

2 – 9470 Shelob Attacks

Year: 227 Price: £19.99 / $19.99 / €19.99 Pieces: 227 Retired: Yes

9470 Shelob Attacks partially depicts a giant spider that is at a similar scale to 21342 The Insect Collection.

Leaving the minifigures and cave build to the side, Shelob could instead be presented as a standard spider of no specific species, climbing on the wall behind the trio of models in the new LEGO Ideas set.

1 – 31141 Main Street

Year: 2023 Price: £124.99 / $139.99 / €139.99 Pieces: 1,459 Retired: No

Alternatively, for a display specific to Goosebumps, 31141 Main Street, or any similar street sets, can be paired with the upscaled Chinese Mantis to reference the giant creatures that appeared in the A Shocker on Shock Street novel.

It’s not quite as natural as our other picks, but it would be a unique take on 21342 The Insect Collection, much to the dismay of the included minifigures.
