Four new LEGO Sonic the Hedgehog sets officially revealed

The LEGO Group and SEGA have officially revealed four new LEGO Sonic the Hedgehog sets due for release in August 2023.

Blasting out of nowhere today comes the official announcement that the LEGO Group and SEGA will once again be teaming up to create products based on the latter’s iconic blue mascot. Four LEGO Sonic the Hedgehog sets have been revealed in the spiky shape of Sonic’s Speed Sphere Challenge, Tails’s Workshop and Tornado Plane, Amy’s Animal Rescue Island and Sonic’s Green Hill Zone Loop Challenge.

Some set numbers, EU prices and a specific release date are not yet known, but the upcoming LEGO Sonic the Hedgehog models feature the ability to link the modular sets together, include lots of familiar minifigure characters and appear to be packed with plenty of play potential. A tongue-in-cheek promotional video for the builds has also been released, revealing just how the new Speed Sphere element will allow fans to recreate the high-speed action of the original video games.

76994 Sonic’s Green Hill Zone Loop Challenge

Release date: August 2023

The largest of the three new LEGO Sonic the Hedgehog set clocks in at 802 pieces and features a huge loop assembly for blasting Sonic across, as well as what looks to be a bigfig of Dr. Eggman as an end-of-level boss. The model also comes with brick-built versions of Chopper and Newtron, plus Flicky, Becky, Rocky and Pecky figures.

“It really isn’t like anything else: the sets offer an entirely new, action-packed play experience,” said designer Frédéric Roland Andre. “I’m especially proud of the Speed Sphere, as it was quite a challenge to figure out how we would get Sonic to speed up and interact with each course. Sonic is known for his speed and how he runs and jumps through courses, so for LEGO sets inspired by him there was no way we could create a static set, we simply had to be creative and make them as action-packed as possible.”
