New Jedi weapon may prove tricky to recreate in a LEGO Star Wars set

A new Jedi weapon that will appear in the upcoming Star Wars: The Acolyte TV series may ultimately be a little tricky to recreate in LEGO form.

Fans of a galaxy far, far away don’t have long to wait now until the two-episode premiere of Star Wars: The Acolyte arrives on Disney+. The live-action TV series launches on the streaming platform on June 4 and is set during the High Republic era, 100 years before the events of The Phantom Menace.

Star Wars: The Acolyte includes Amandla Stenberg, Lee Jung-jae, Manny Jacinto, Dafne Keen, Charlie Barnett, Jodie Turner-Smith, Rebecca Henderson, Dean-Charles Chapman, Joonas Suotamo, and Carrie-Anne Moss, with creator and showrunner Leslye Headland leading the charge.

Ahead of the arrival of the series, Lucasfilm and Disney have released a selection of promotional clips from Star Wars: The Acolyte, with the most recent revealing a previously unseen Jedi weapon. In the ‘Plan’ teaser, Jedi Master Vernestra Rwoh (played by Rebecca Henderson) wields what looks to be some sort of formidable lightsaber whip.

While the colour of the blade is similar to Mace Windu’s iconic purple lightsaber, the length and functionality of the weapon could well make it both unique and lethal. There’s no official word yet as to why Rwoh carries such a lightsaber or what its specific use might be.

We’ve yet to hear rumours regarding any LEGO Star Wars sets based on Star Wars: The Acolyte so far, but speculation would suggest the inclusion of a potential Jedi Master Vernestra Rwoh minifigure in any future releases might well cause a few design headaches.

The LEGO Star Wars theme has utilised essentially the same lightsaber blade element since the theme made its debut 25 years ago. While we’ve seen multiple colours released over the years, the signature weapon of the Jedi has remained virtually identical during that time.

One possible option for recreating Rwoh’s version in LEGO form might be to use an existing piece, such as 2630 Flex Tube 21 Module, an element that’s appeared in over 21 sets to date and is often used to portray Spider-Man’s web line.

While a recoloured purple version might do the trick, it still wouldn’t really fit the bill. With that in mind, it certainly feels as if the gauntlet has been well-and-truly thrown down to the LEGO Star Wars design team to come up with a new and exclusive piece to represent the upcoming Jedi weapon, if the opportunity should ever arise.

Star Wars: The Acolyte will premiere on Disney+ on June 4, with two episodes available for all subscribers to the streaming service.

If you want to know why Vernestra carries a light whip, read A Test of Courage, the High Republic novel in which she was introduced.

The answer to this question might be found in another famous Lucasfilm property. If the recent Indiana Jones bullwhip could be recolored in purple and inserted into a classic lightsaber handle, it might recreate the Jedi lightwhip well.
