The Atari 2600 had over 500 games over its lifespan, published by Atari and other third parties leaving the design team behind 10306 Atari 2600 with the task of deciding which games would be featured in the new model.
Even limiting the list to just Atari titles leaves around 130 to choose from. However, the decision was made to include the creatively-named Asteroids, Centipede and Adventure. In 10306 Atari 2600, the designers depict these games with a brick-built cartridge and a small diorama of the title.
The box art for 10306 Atari 2600 handily displays these game-centric builds alongside a screenshot from each title, and it’s clear that graphics have come a long way since the Atari 2600 with the models focusing more on the concept of the game rather than the gameplay.
Despite that, focusing on the idea behind these games makes for a more colourful creation. The model’s three cartridges for Centipede, Asteroids and Adventure are even worthy of display on their own as stickers recreate the artwork for each title, but with a LEGO twist. In Asteroids, you might even be able to spot 10497 Galaxy Explorer in place of the original spaceship and Adventure’s LEGO design even uses the old dragon element.
You can take a closer look at these and more references when you have 10306 Atari 2600 in hand from August 1, 2022, when the set will launch for $239.99 / €239.99 with 2,532 pieces and one exclusive minifigure wearing an Atari shirt.
