10316 The Lord of the Rings: Rivendell, meanwhile, marks the LEGO Group’s first foray into Middle-earth (beyond LEGO Dimensions and January’s three BrickHeadz sets) since 2013. And it’s nothing if not going back in style, blowing the roof off all previous Lord of the Rings sets with a phenomenal 6,167-piece recreation of the elven kingdom.

Also included in the box are 15 different minifigures (21 if you include the grey elven statues that litter Rivendell), comprising Gandalf the Grey, Aragorn, Legolas, Gimli, Boromir, Frodo Baggins, Samwise Gamgee, Meriadoc Brandybuck, Peregrin Took, Elrond, Arwen, Bilbo Baggins, two generic elves and a dwarf. It’s an instant Middle-earth minifigure collection, all in one go.

10316 The Lord of the Rings: Rivendell retails for £429.99 in the UK, $499.99 in the US and €499.99 in Europe. As well as 40630 Frodo & Gollum, the set also qualifies for the other gift-with-purchase running at the moment, 40583 Houses of the World 1.

I like to think of myself as a journalist first, LEGO fan second, but we all know that’s not really the case. Journalism does run through my veins, though, like some kind of weird literary blood – the sort that will no doubt one day lead to a stress-induced heart malfunction. It’s like smoking, only worse. Thankfully, I get to write about LEGO until then.
