LEGO 43222 Disney Castle 100th anniversary set officially revealed

The LEGO Group’s flagship Disney 100th anniversary set is finally here in 43222 Disney Castle, a 4,837-piece reimagining of 2016’s 71040 The Disney Castle.

Coming in at 757 more pieces than its predecessor, 43222 Disney Castle updates the construction and colour scheme of the House of Mouse icon – while also expanding on its size along pretty much every axis. The final model stands 80cm tall, 59cm wide and 33cm deep (at least if we’ve interpreted the press release correctly, which confusingly refers to length, width and depth in its dimensions).

The new model is designed as a ‘homage to the iconic castle at the beginning of all Disney movies’ for the company’s 100th anniversary, and is packed with references to 14 different Disney movies and countless characters – from Steamboat Willie and Snow White to Moana and The Princess and the Frog. It also comes with eight total minifigures, including Snow White, Prince Florian, Cinderella, Prince Charming, Tiana, Prince Naveen, Rapunzel and Flynn Rider.

“Over the last century, Disney has created some of the world’s greatest stories which are loved by generation after generation,” said LEGO Disney Creative Design Lead Benedikte Stamp. “Just like these stories, LEGO play transcends age, language, culture and interests to inspire millions of children to build and create anything they can imagine.

“As a designer, it’s my role to bring together the magic of the two brands and give fans of all ages the chance to celebrate their love for Disney stories through building.”

The interior of 43222 Disney Castle spans multiple rooms, including a bedroom, ballroom, kitchen and dining room, while the press release also teases a ‘secret turret’ containing a Disney time capsule filled with references to the past century of films and characters. The castle’s exterior is reinvigorated in sand blue and light nougat – compared to 71040 The Disney Castle’s light grey and dark blue – and is adorned with fireworks, capping off the birthday celebrations.

43222 Disney Castle launches July 1 for VIP members for £344.99 / $399.99 / €399.99, before going on general sale at LEGO.com and in LEGO Stores on July 4. All LEGO Disney purchases above £95 / $100 / €100 will receive 40600 Disney 100 Years Celebration from July 1 to 9, or while stocks last.
