LEGO Avatar designer reveals compelling reason to buy several sets at once
LEGO Avatar designer Atticus Tsai-McCarthy recently offered a strong reason to consider buying several LEGO Avatar sets from both waves.
Speaking to Brickset, Atticus mentioned that ‘you can play with the models, but also display them easily on a shelf and even combine them if you have several sets’. Expanding on the point later on, the LEGO Designer highlighted how, even though all ten LEGO Avatar sets span different areas of Pandora and even different movies, they’re designed to work together cohesively.
“The design process was very collaborative across the team and we decided collectively which areas of Pandora we wanted to include,” Atticus explained. “Once we determined that different sections should join together, we laid out how they could be combined in a cohesive way, while representing completely separate parts of Pandora.”
In the same way that many LEGO collectors will create dioramas from one theme, such as Star Wars and Marvel, it seems the same thing will be possible with LEGO Avatar. Some particularly well-suited combinations that struck us include 75578 Metkayina Reef Home and 75575 Ilu Discovery, as they’re both sets that recreate events taking place on the surface of the water.
Similarly, combining 75572 Jake & Neytiri’s First Banshee Flight and 75576 Skimwing Adventure would work well in terms of creating the illusion of flight. Ultimately, you can let your imagination run wild with the different combinations, with all nine of the sets (excluding 40554 Jake Sully & his Avatar) working together pretty well.
Here’s a quick round-up of everyLEGOAvatar set either currently available or confirmed for release as inspiration for display ideas.
