LEGO Avatar: The Way of Water sets miss a lot of the movie

Though they have yet to launch, the release of Avatar: The Way of Water reveals that the LEGO sets miss a lot, and it may be for a good reason.

Avatar: The Way of Water is over three hours long and as such it was known that the five accompanying LEGO models, launching on January 1, 2023, wouldn’t cover every moment in the film. However, the sequel is now in cinemas, revealing that there’s a good chunk of the story not covered in the sets.

Before we go any further, we’re about to discuss major spoilers for Avatar: The Way of Water.

Ahead of the deep dive into the oceanic areas of Pandora, the forests and the floating mountains are highlighted following their major focus in the first Avatar film. After a one-year time jump, it’s revealed that a network of trains has now been set up connecting mines and other outposts to the central city-like base of Bridgehead, surrounded by an area of dead land to dissuade any Na’vi interlopers.

While not great for the Na’vi, the trains alone provide an interesting scene that would make for a great LEGO set, though the current Way of Water models are sticking to the water, where most of the movie takes place.

With three more Avatar movies currently planned, it seems likely that Bridgehead and the network of trains will be explored further in the future when the Na’vi choose to take the fight to the Humans, or the Humans ramp up their efforts to forcefully colonise the moon.

Nothing has been confirmed but with Avatar: The Way of Water achieving an impressive worldwide opening weekend at the box office, there might be a reason for the LEGO Group to look towards these elements of the franchise in the theme’s future.

For now, we can at least look forward to the launch of the five official LEGO Avatar: The Way of Water models at the start of 2023, and don’t forget the other Avatar sets out now covering the first film.
