LEGO Avengers Tower’s unique outline produced two new types of curve

The iconic silhouette of the Avengers Tower would also pose a challenge when it came to the design of the upcoming LEGO Marvel set, producing two new forms of a curve.

In the LEGO designer video for LEGO Marvel 76269 Avengers Tower, LEGO Designer Justin Ramsden noted that the curved nature and jaunty angles of the on-screen Avengers Tower were tricky to achieve with LEGO elements, especially on such a large scale. However, with some creative building, there are two unique ways that the sweeping walls of the tower have been rendered in the enormous LEGO Marvel set.

“We’ve had a lot of fun in creating all the different angles and shapes that make this structure,” explained Justin. “One of my favourite things is the flex tube that we have at the very top, which is used on a panel that’s removable to reveal Tony Stark’s lounge area.”

The flex tube appears to be made up of a mixture of plated and studded elements, creating a movable, bendy section of the build that fits smoothly into the roof. It’s an unusual form to be seen in a LEGO set, but perfectly captures the sloped roof that we see throughout the MCU for 76269 Avengers Tower.

In addition, 76269 Avengers Tower also sparked the creation of a brand-new element: a curved window.

“We’ve made a new curved window element,” said Justin. “We’ve put in over 60 of these. They really define the front curved panel but also the back and give the illusion of multiple floors going up the skyscraper.”

The new element is tinted blue, contributing to the blue-grey colour scheme of 76269 Avengers Tower overall. It does exactly what Justin describes, depicting the towering height of the build and creating an illusion of dozens of floors (even if that illusion will be broken once you peek inside at the interior).
